FAQs ...
1. Who should get baptized?
Those who have received Jesus Christ personally as their Savior and Lord.
2. When should a person get baptized?
As soon as possible after salvation. Delayed obedience is disobedience.
3. What age should a person be to get baptized?
It totally depends upon the person and their understanding of the gospel. Those raised in a Christian home more than likely, will be ready sooner than those who haven’t been raised in a biblical worldview environment. If a child persists in wanting to get baptized, the parent should not hold them back because of age.
4. What is the reason for baptism?
To demonstrate your commitment to being a follower of Jesus by immersion picturing the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus and your identifying with Him.
5. Where should a person get baptized?
Through a Bible-teaching, local church, or church organization.
6. Why should I get baptized?
To obey a direct command of Jesus. Baptism doesn’t make you a Christian it does however advertise that you are an unashamed follower of Jesus Christ obeying His will.
7. How should I get baptized?
You should be baptized by immersion (submersion) after salvation. Your going down into the water pictures the death and burial of Jesus Christ and His resurrection. You are advertising the fact that you have died to your old life, and you are living a new life because of Jesus’ death and resurrection.
8. Can I be baptized as a way of renewing my faith as a Christian?
Absolutely Yes and many people do. Some have veered from the faith or allowed life to take away their desire to passionately follow Jesus. Getting baptized is your way of declaring that from that day forward you will go wide open for God, seeking Him first. It tells your friends and family that you are serious about following Jesus.
9. What if I was baptized as an infant? Do I need to be baptized?
We are not in any way taking away from the importance and specific nature of getting sprinkled normally when you are an infant and unaware of the reason behind baptism. However, now that you are an adult you are aware of your sin and your need for God’s forgiveness.
10. What about those who were baptized and then got saved. Should they be baptized?
Yes, to get their baptism “in order.’ Baptism pictures an event that has taken place (salvation) not an event that will take place.
11. What if my family gets offended about me getting baptized?
This can be very sensitive. I encourage you to set a time to meet with your family, express your love for them and respect for them, and to lovingly ask them for their blessing for you getting baptized. Thank them for their spiritual leadership in your life and remind them you couldn’t do this without their help. Invite them to your baptism. However, if they choose to remain offended by this, you must obey God and demonstrate your love and respect for your family.
12. Is the mode of baptism important?
It is vitally important. The word baptize that applied to John the Baptist getting baptized and baptizing Jesus, can only mean by immersion, going under the water and coming up out of the water. Biblical baptism is the way of confessing your faith publicly in Jesus Christ. There are words the Bible could have used for sprinkling or christening, but the writers of the Bible chose the word that could only mean immersion or submersion.
13. Is it necessary to get baptized to be a Christian?
It is not necessary to get baptized to become a Christian, however it is necessary to get baptized to be an obedient Christian fulfilling Jesus’ first commandment for a Christian. The thief on the cross got saved and never got baptized, yet on that day he went to heaven.
14. How soon should I get baptized after I become a Christian?
The Bible indicates that when someone becomes a Christian, he or she should immediately get baptized and not postpone it. There is really nothing to pray about concerning getting baptized. It is God’s will and the sooner you get baptized the better. What a happy moment when one comes out of the water and realizes he or she has obeyed God.
15. Was Jesus baptized?
Yes, He was baptized by John the Baptist. Jesus walked over 70 miles to get baptized in the Jordon River. He was baptized by immersion picturing for us the event of the crucifixion and resurrection.
16. Where should I get baptized?
We encourage you to find a Bible- teaching local church. Do an online search and look at the beliefs of that church making certain they are consistent with what the Bible teaches. Ask the best Christians you know where they go to church.
17. Can getting baptized help me with my lack of assurance about my salvation?
It can if you are struggling with the assurance of your salvation. Baptism is a tangible act that you can always look back to. First, make sure you have prayed to receive Jesus as your Savior and Lord. Drive that stake in the ground and do everything the Bible says to be saved (Romans 10:9-10;13; I John 5:13). Then get baptized as a way of tangibly demonstrating that you have received Jesus.
18. What if I want to get baptized, but I’m not a Christian?
Those who desire to be baptized will also be open to receive Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord. First receive Jesus then you can get baptized. There is a great story about this with the Ethiopian Eunuch in Acts 8:25-40.
19. Who can baptize me?
Anyone for whom a specific local church has designated that authority. Most of the time that would be a pastor or church staff member or leader. Also the church can give authority to a family member or friend to baptize a person. The issue is to always bring it back to the authority of a local church. We have seen fathers baptize their sons and daughters which presents a powerful witness.

21. The Big Picture
For a Christian, baptism is not an option if you are serious about following Jesus Christ. Baptism doesn’t save you or remove your sin, however it advertises the fact that you have been saved, that you are a serious follower of Jesus Christ.
There is a story in Acts 8 where the Secretary of Treasury, an Ethiopian Eunuch, was in his carriage reading Isaiah
53. Deacon Phillip was led by the Holy Spirit to meet this man, stop the chariot, and have a discussion. He obviously didn’t understand what he was reading so he sought Phillip’s help. He wanted to know why he couldn’t be baptized because he had just seen a body of water. Phillip told him he could but there was one condition, placing one’s total faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Once that happens Jesus expects us to be baptized as soon as possible. The Philippian jailer who was saved one evening, immediately he and his family were baptized.
Baptism is the greatest confession of our faith in Jesus and our passionate desire to follow Jesus. It is something tangible, something any man can do.
Why should a person get baptized? First let’s define baptism. It is your confession of faith in Jesus Christ or Follower of Jesus. Baptism symbolizes the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Scriptural baptism means by immersion and after salvation. Your going down or being
immersed in the water represents the death of Jesus Christ and the death of your old way of life. Coming up out of the water pictures the resurrection of Jesus and your resurrection to a new life since Jesus lives in your life.
Baptism is a command from Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:19-20) if you want to be an obedient Christian. Baptism is like a wedding ring. When you wear it, you are confessing your marriage and marriage partner. You want the world to know you are married. However, if you fail to wear your wedding ring you are still married. Your baptism simply advertises your commitment to Christ. Baptism professes your
commitment to Jesus Christ. Not getting baptized doesn’t mean you aren’t a Christian; but getting baptized announces you are serious about following Jesus and
obeying His command.
